My Ireland

2019 Documentary, 90 Minutes

Anthony Monaghan is from the beautiful West of Ireland. Due to the poor economy at the time, he had to leave home at the age of fifteen to find work abroad. After many hard years, he found success in America and earned enough to buy a house back in Ireland. Nonetheless, he was evicted and, once again, did not have a home in his homeland. Now, he is going back in search of answers. He travels the country and talks to Irish people from all walks of life, from a homeless Dubliner to John McGuinness TD. My Ireland exposes the corruption behind the displacement of thousands of Irish people through economic migration, wrongful evictions, and the homeless crisis. It tells a story shared by countless men and women who, like Monaghan, lost their home in Ireland.

In 2019, My Ireland had its world premiere at the Irish Film Institute and subsequently received a universally positive review by Liam Deegan in IRISH CENTRAL. That same year, it was awarded ‘Best Documentary’ at the Underground Cinema Film Festival in Dublin before going on to screen in the Respect Human Rights Film Festival in Belfast and the Yonkers Film Festival in New York. Most recently, it has been selected by the 2020 Lift-Off Sessions film festival at Pinewood Studios.
