Rednecks + Culchies
a startling look at the American working class from the perspective of Irish working men
Monaghan Productions founder, Anthony Monaghan directed and produced this startling feature-length film. Since its high profile premiere at the Hi-Pointe Theatre in 2013 and screening in the 2014 St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase, REDNECKS + CULCHIES has gained international distribution through BRINKvision.
In this often disturbing documentary, the drug and alcohol addictions of the American working class are studied by the director and fellow culchie (Irish redneck), John McNamara. Coming from a large family in rural Western Ireland, Mr. Monaghan is no stranger to poverty. With only five years of formal education, he left home as a teenage migrant worker to one day own and run a successful construction business in the United States. Having overcome the most difficult of obstacles, he is baffled by the apathy and substance abuse problems of American workers.
In March of 2016, Mr. Monaghan hosted an encore presentation of Rednecks + Culchies at the Tivoli Theatre with all proceeds benefiting The S.H.E.R.A.H. Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources for disadvantaged women of the St. Louis community. Additionally, S.H.E.R.A.H. will receive 20% of all distribution sales.
